Lot 275: AN INSCRIBED ISLAMIC TALISMAN TURQUOISE-COLOURED STONE IN A SILVER RING

A large, cast white metal talismanic-style ring, possibly silver, set with a rectangular, flat-cut turquoise-coloured stone. The stone is opaque blue and features a decorative Arabic inscription engraved into the surface, filled with a dark pigment or niello. The inscription reads وكفى بالله وكيلا (Wa kafa billahi wakila), translated from the Quran as And Allah is sufficient as a disposer of affairs. The stone is held in a rectangular stepped bezel with notched decorative borders. The shoulders of the ring feature a prominent radiating fluted or fan-ribbed design that tapers into a wide, solid band.
