AN ORNATE CARVED BONE AND GOLD-MOUNTED ARCHER THUMB RING, MUGHAL INDIA, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY

The piece features a broad upper section tapering to a pointed lip. The thumb aperture is encircled by a carved scalloped border. A large, oval red gemstone cabochon is centrally mounted on the neck within a yellow metal bezel setting. A thin yellow metal band separates the upper portion from a lower register, which is deeply carved with a continuous frieze of scrolling foliate and floral motifs.
