AN INDIAN CARVED BONE AND GEM-SET ARCHERS THUMB RING, MUGHAL, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY

The object is carved to represent the head of a bird of prey or parrot, featuring a realistically rendered hooked beak and two inset red cabochon gemstones serving as the eyes. The exterior surface of the ring is decorated with finely incised imbricated and striated patterns to represent feathers, designed with a large circular aperture and a tapering flange to protect the digit during archery.
