Lot 245: A QAJAR STEEL AND SILVER INLAID TALISMANIC BAZUBAND, 19TH CENTURY
0 views
The piece is constructed from forged steel and decorated with silver and gold-coloured metal inlay using the koftgari technique. The central field features a lobed cartouche with silver-inlaid calligraphy reading Nasrun min Allahi wa fathun qareeb (Help from Allah and a near victory), a verse from the Quran, Surah As-Saff. The central cartouche is bordered by intricate floral arabesque (islimi) scrollwork executed in gold-coloured wire. The plaque is fitted with two hinged, D-shaped attachment loops on the horizontal axis, suggesting it served as a ceremonial belt element or bazuband.
