A CAST AND ENGRAVED BRONZE DEVOTIONAL PLAQUE/STAMP DEPICTING MECCA AND MADINA, 19TH CENTURY

The face displays a central circular medallion enclosed within a border of interlocking foliate scrolls. The medallion contains a detailed depiction of the Haramayn, or the two holy sanctuaries of Islam. On the left is the Kaaba in Mecca, which is inscribed at its base with the word Allah in Arabic script. To the right is the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, identified by its dome and minarets, and inscribed at its base with the name Muhammad in Arabic script. Above the architectural structures is a celestial motif consisting of a crescent moon and stars, while the foreground depicts a tiled courtyard.
