Buyer's Premium:

An Indian cast copper alloy figure, likely brass, depicting the Hindu deity Krishna in the form of Venugopala. The sculpture is executed in a provincial folk style characteristic of the Odisha region, featuring prominent almond-shaped eyes and a simplified anatomical silhouette. Krishna is depicted in the svastikasana pose, standing with his right leg crossed behind his left and his arms raised to the face as if to play a flute. The head is surmounted by a tiered conical headdress and adorned with large circular earrings. The deity is further decorated with a beaded necklace, armbands, and bracelets. He wears a short dhoti held by a beaded girdle with a central foliate tassel. The sculpture is supported by a square-stepped pedestal. The reverse shows a vertical groove along the spine and the continuation of the ornamental bands. The sculpture is a hollow casting, and the aged surface and wear patterns suggest a date from the late 19th to early 20th century.
