Lot 19: A LARGE QAJAR POLYCHROME CERAMIC TWELVE-TILE PANEL, 19TH CENTURY

The panel features a complex symmetrical floral design executed in polychrome underglaze painting using a palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, yellow, manganese brown, green, and red. The central field contains a network of white scrolling foliate vines, known as islimi, interspersed with lotus and composite floral blossoms against a vibrant cobalt blue ground. The four corner spandrels are decorated with yellow scrolling leaves set against a dark manganese brown ground. The composition is finished with a broad turquoise-ground border containing a continuous scrolling floral vine, framed by narrow yellow and white guard bands.
