Lot 155: A TURQUOISE-GLAZED LAJVARDINA POTTERY JUG, ILKHANID IRAN, 13TH CENTURY

The neck is divided into vertical rectangular panels containing stylised foliate and palmette motifs, bordered at the rim by a band of geometric cross-hatching. The main body is organised into large hexagonal cartouches. These contain alternating horizontal rows of swimming fish, stylised avian figures, and circular medallions featuring cursive calligraphic script, likely blessings. A continuous band of scrolling wave-like or guilloche patterns in dark pigment encircles the base of the body, while the handle is decorated with a vertical chain of lozenge shapes. The unglazed foot ring bears a hand-written mark in dark blue ink, consisting of a horizontal stroke crossed by a vertical stroke with a curved hook at the top, followed by a separate diagonal slash .
