Lot 148: AN ISLAMIC SGRAFFITO EARTHENWARE BOWL, PERSIA OR CENTRAL ASIA, 10TH-12TH CENTURY

A conical earthenware bowl featuring sgraffito and slip-painted decoration. The interior is decorated with a central circular medallion enclosed by four radiating panels containing stylised foliate and palmette motifs. These designs are executed using incised lines through a cream-coloured slip and are further detailed with green and reddish-brown slips. The rim is finished with a border of dark brown dashes. The exterior is coated in a light-buff slip with irregular reddish-brown splashes and rests on a small foot.
