Lot 137: A LARGE SAFAVID BLUE AND WHITE POTTERY DISH, PERSIA, 17TH CENTURY

A Safavid blue and white pottery dish, Persia, 17th century. This fritware ceramic vessel is decorated in underglaze blue with a design heavily influenced by Chinese Wanli period Kraak export porcelain. The interior features a central medallion containing a dense arrangement of leafy floral scrolls, surrounded by concentric borders and a scalloped band with stylized floral elements. The exterior wall is decorated with a continuous frieze of simplified floral sprays and bird-like motifs. The dish has a shallow profile and sits on a low, unglazed foot rim. The base features three distinct pseudo-marks in blue underglaze. Each mark consists of a central vertical stroke intersected by three horizontal strokes, commonly referred to as tassel marks.
