Lot 136: AN OTTOMAN IZNIK POTTERY DISH, LATE 16TH CENTURY

A shallow circular pottery dish from the Ottoman Empire, produced in the Iznik region. The piece is made of fritware with a white ground, decorated under a clear glaze with underglaze painting. The colour palette includes cobalt blue, emerald green, and raised bolus red, with details outlined in black. The central composition features a floral spray emerging from a single point, comprising a large serrated saz leaf, tulips, carnations, and smaller blossoms. The flared rim is decorated with a black and white rock and wave border. The reverse of the dish is finished in a cream glaze and features alternating green and black spiral and circular motifs. There are no maker marks, signatures, or inscriptions present on the object. A length of twine for hanging is tied to the unglazed foot rim, which features several deliberate notches around its circumference.
