Lot 103: A COLLECTION OF ISLAMIC SILVER CUFF BRACELET AND THREE TAWEEZ AMULET PENDANTS, 19TH CENTURY

This collection of silver-toned metal jewellery features traditional Islamic decorative motifs and forms, consisting of an open-ended cuff bracelet and three cylindrical amulet pendants, commonly known as ta’wiz. The cuff bracelet is designed with scalloped, lobed terminals and features a central band of chased and engraved decoration. The pattern includes repeating paisley (boteh) motifs and scrolling floral vines, with certain elements highlighted by a gold-coloured wash. A single small turquoise-coloured bead is inset near one of the terminals.

The three cylindrical amulet pendants served as protective scroll cases for prayers or Quranic verses. The first pendant features multiple horizontal registers of cursive Arabic calligraphy on the body, with three suspension loops and gadrooned end caps. The second pendant is decorated with a series of diagonal spiral ridges and includes two suspension loops from which chains with small spherical bells are attached. The third pendant is densely engraved with geometric patterns, including diamond shapes, cross-hatching, and rows of small dots, and is finished with domed end caps and two suspension loops.
