Lot 10: A KASHAN LUSTRE MOULDED POTTERY STAR TILE PERSIA, LATE 13TH - EARLY 14TH CENTURY

A fritware star-shaped wall tile produced in the Ilkhanid period. The piece is moulded into an eight-pointed star form, known as a shamsa, and decorated using a combination of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze lustre painting. The outer border contains a continuous band of calligraphic inscription rendered in a cursive Naskh or Thuluth script, painted in cobalt blue against a white ground. The central field displays traces of turquoise and golden-brown lustre decoration, though the specific motif, likely foliate or zoomorphic, is significantly worn. The reverse shows the raw, unglazed buff-coloured clay body, which features irregular surface cracking and remains of mortar from its original architectural placement.
