Lot 80: AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN FAIENCE AMULET OF THE GOD THOTH, LATE PERIOD, CIRCA 6TH - 4TH CENTURY B.C.

An Ancient Egyptian faience amuletic figure of the god Thoth, depicted in his baboon-headed manifestation. The deity is shown in a traditional striding pose with the left leg advanced, standing upon an integral rectangular base. The figure features a baboon head with a prominent snout and a striated tripartite wig. He is clad in a short, pleated kilt, known as a shenti. A substantial back pillar supports the figure, extending from the base to the top of the head. A single circular perforation is located through the back pillar at mid-torso height for suspension or attachment. The piece is crafted from turquoise-blue glazed composition (faience) over a light-coloured core.
