This lot comprises a finely engraved oval-shaped rock crystal intaglio. The clear quartz stone features a scene of a seated male musician, likely representing the deity Apollo or a poet. The figure is depicted in profile, nude, and seated upon a high-backed throne with decorative turned legs. His feet rest upon a rectangular footstool embellished with vertical markings. The figure holds a large lyre or kithara and is shown in the act of plucking the strings with his right hand. The carving exhibits precise detail in the rendering of the musculature and a hairstyle composed of tight parallel lines.
