Faraj Abbo (Iraqi, 1921-1984). An abstract composition executed in oil on board. The painting features a complex interplay of geometric and organic forms, dominated by a central, stylized white figure set against a vibrant background of colours including deep blue, emerald green, terracotta, and ochre. The artist has employed a heavy impasto technique, using both brush and palette knife to create a varied and tactile surface texture. The work is signed in Arabic script in the lower right corner, Faraj Abbo, and dated 63 (1963). This piece is characteristic of Abbo’s mid-century output, blending European modernist influences with a distinct Middle Eastern aesthetic. The painting is presented in a horizontal rectangular format.
