Lot 7: HAFIDH AL-DROUBI (IRAQ, 1914-1991) MIDDLE EASTERN MARKET SCENE WITH MOSQUE, 1979

An oil on canvas depicting a Middle Eastern market scene, executed in a modernist style with cubist influences. The composition features faceted geometric shapes in the sky and architecture, focusing on a street leading towards a central mosque with a turquoise dome and minaret. Several figures in traditional costume are depicted at market stalls, including vendors with watermelons and other produce. The work is signed in red paint to the lower right. The painting is presented in a gilt-moulded frame featuring a wide canvas-covered slip. The reverse is sealed with a paper-covered backing board and retains a small, illegible white label in the lower left corner.
