Lot 54: A STEATITE STONE IN THE FORM OF A RECUMBENT RAM, PERSIAN PERIOD 500 - 400 B.C.

A carved dark stone zoomorphic sculpture, possibly chlorite or steatite, depicting a stylised recumbent ram in a couchant position. The figure is set upon an integral, flat rectangular base. The head features large, forward-curling horns, small ears tucked beneath, and prominent almond-shaped eyes. A horizontal perforation is bored through the centre of the base between the legs, suggesting the piece may have functioned as an amulet, weight, or decorative fitting. The material shows a mottled dark green to black patina with visible surface pitting and traces of reddish-brown earthy encrustations throughout. The underside of the base reveals a weathered and uneven surface with no legible characters, symbols, or inscriptions visible.
