Lot 37: A ROMAN ROCK CRYSTAL FIGURE OF A FEMALE DEITY, CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.

Attributed to the Roman period, circa 1st-2nd Century AD, this figurine is carved from a single piece of transparent rock crystal (quartz). The figure depicts a standing female deity or matron, possibly Fortuna, wearing a traditional long stola with a cross-over bodice and a cloak or veil draped from her shoulders. Her hair is rendered in stylised ridges and gathered into a chignon at the nape of the neck. The figurine stands upon an integral, low circular plinth.
