Lot 36: A TRANSLUCENT ROCK CRYSTAL PHALLUS, ROMANO-EGYPTIAN

A phallic amulet or votive object fashioned from translucent glass of a pale amber or honey-coloured tone. The object features a tapered cylindrical shaft terminating in a rounded glans, with two bulbous lobes at the base representing testes. The surface exhibits characteristic signs of age and long-term burial, including pitting, devitrification, and areas of adhered brown mineral or soil encrustations. In the Roman world, such objects were known as a fascinum and were used as protective talismans to ward off the evil eye and as symbols of fertility.
