Lot 317: A ROYAL EGYPTIAN EMBROIDERED HERALDIC TEXTILE PANEL OF KING FUAD I

An embroidered textile panel featuring the royal coat of arms of the Muhammad Ali dynasty of Egypt, specifically for King Fuad I (reigned 1917-1936). The piece is constructed on a dark grey or black ground fabric. The central heraldic shield is rendered in green silk appliqué, decorated with raised metallic thread embroidery in gold and silver tones. The crest is surmounted by the Royal Crown of Egypt, which features a crescent and star finial. An interlaced calligraphic monogram in silver-tone bullion thread occupies the centre of the shield. The lower portion of the shield displays an Arabic inscription reading Fuad al-Awwal (Fuad I). The embroidery employs various techniques including purl and twisted wire to create texture and depth. The design elements reflect Ottoman heraldic traditions adapted for the Egyptian monarchy.
