Lot 315: A LATE SAFAVID TEXTILE FRAGMENT, PERSIA, 18TH CENTURY
0 views
The textile features a repeating diagonal stripe pattern, referred to as khat-rast, containing floral and foliate motifs in a palette of indigo blue and cream. The fine weave suggests the use of high-quality wool or pashmina. The fragment is mounted onto a secondary support of beige plain-weave fabric, which is bordered on the reverse with a wide band of indigo-dyed cloth. The design consists of alternating bands of differing floral densities and intricate foliate patterns.
