These two newsprint leaves are from the Iraqi publication Al-Nahda al-Iraqiyya (The Iraqi Renaissance), dating to circa 1927-1928. The first sheet contains the full Arabic text of the Treaty of Jeddah (1927), headlined Al-Mu’ahada bayna Britaniya wa al-Hejaz wa Najd (The Treaty between Britain, Hejaz and Nejd). This treaty, signed between the United Kingdom and King Abdulaziz (Ibn Saud), represents the formal recognition of the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Hejaz and Nejd. The text outlines multiple articles concerning the protection of pilgrims and regional boundaries. The second sheet contains several columns of contemporary news including reports on Italian colonial interests in the Red Sea titled At-Tawassu’ al-Itali fi al-Bahr al-Ahmar and a discussion on the legal ownership of the Suez Canal titled Malikiyat Qanat as-Suways. A printed advertisement for Ma’mal al-Kashi al-Fanni fi al-Midan (The Artistic Tile Factory in Al-Midan) is also present. The newspaper title is printed at the head of both leaves.
