Lot 284: A PERSIAN MINIATURE PAINTING OF TWO FIGURES IN A LANDSCAPE, 18TH - 19TH CENTURY

Depicts two figures in an intimate pose within a stylised outdoor landscape. The figure on the left is dressed in a yellow and blue robe with a striped sash and a white and gold turban. The figure on the right wears a pink robe with turquoise sleeves and a matching white and red turban. To the right of the figures is a flowering tree with vibrant blue blossoms and two white birds perched near its branches. The background features a gold-flecked wash. The central composition is surrounded by four inset panels containing Persian verses written in Nasta’liq script. The top and bottom sections each feature two horizontal cartouches, while the sides are flanked by vertical columns of calligraphy. The entire work is mounted onto a decorative page consisting of an inner peach-coloured border and a wide, dark blue outer mount.
