A pen-and-ink drawing on paper executed in the siyah qalam (black pen) tradition with gold-pigment highlights. The central composition depicts a young nobleman or prince standing in three-quarter profile, dressed in ceremonial attire including an ornate feathered headdress known as a taj, a long-sleeved tunic with horizontal braided fastenings, loose trousers, and traditional platform clogs called nalins. The figure holds a small wine cup in his right hand. The central frame is surrounded by a wide illuminated border (hashiya) decorated with floral and faunal motifs in gold, featuring a predatory feline, a seated deer, and birds amongst foliage.
