Lot 272: A PAIR OF SILVER-PLATED RELIEF PLAQUES DEPICTING AN ORIGINALIST ELEPHANT AND A CAMEL

A pair of rectangular wall plaques featuring high-relief scenes executed in silver-plated metal, likely copper, using repoussé and chasing techniques. One plaque illustrates an Asian elephant with a mahout rider navigating a landscape with a large stylised tree and a small building in the background. The companion plaque depicts a figure riding a dromedary camel past several palm trees. The style and execution of these pieces are consistent with decorative metalwork produced by European art firms such as Kunstanstalt during the late 19th or early 20th century. Both plaques are mounted in matching ebonised wooden frames with wide, stepped profiles.
