Lot 270: A TOPHANE RELIEF-DECORATED RED STONEWARE LIDDED JAR, TURKEY, 20TH CENTURY
0 views
The central frieze of the body features a repeating pattern of arched panels, each containing a stylized foliate or avian motif, potentially representing a hintha or peacock. This central band is framed by horizontal rows of raised circular bosses or beading. The domed lid continues this decorative theme with concentric bands of gadrooning and further rows of bosses, culminating in a turned, pointed finial with a beaded median band. The piece is uniform in colour with a smooth, matte finish throughout both the exterior and interior. The base is flat and unmarked, showing a partial white paper label or sticker residue.
