Lot 232: A TRI-METAL DECORATIVE CHARGER, SRI LANKA KANDY, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
0 views
The object is constructed from a brass base that has been densely stippled with a punched seed pattern. The decorative motifs are rendered in silver and copper-toned metal overlays. The central medallion features a lion (Simha) in profile surrounded by floral sprigs, bordered by a serrated circular band. The main field depicts four celestial Kinnara figures carrying staves, positioned among scrolling foliate vines and blossoms. The wide rim contains concentric bands of geometric patterns and a repeating border of stylised rosettes. The reverse exhibits a natural aged patina and has a soldered metal hanging loop. Faint, illegible incised marks are present in the centre of the reverse.
