The hollowed shell features three primary oval cartouches containing complex Arabic calligraphy in a stylised Thuluth script. The script includes the name Muhammad and the devotional invocation Ya followed by further text. The raised lettering and decorative borders are finished with gold-toned gilding. The cartouches are connected by a secondary decorative scheme of foliate scrolls, palmettes, and circular medallions with geometric floral motifs. The recessed background areas exhibit fine hand-tooled stippling and hatching throughout. A circular hole is present at the base for a suspension mount.
