Lot 207: A PERSIAN QAJAR POLYCHROME UNDERGLAZE CERAMIC DISH, 19TH CENTURY

A Persian ceramic dish of circular form with a deep well and a wide, flat rim. The central decoration features a medallion depicting a seated male figure, likely a royal or high-ranking official, wearing a pointed crown and a pink tunic with horizontal frogging. He is shown with a sword resting across his knees and is flanked by two standing attendants dressed in turquoise robes. The composition is set against a cobalt blue ground enriched with floral sprays, a ewer, and a cup. The rim is decorated with a continuous border of eight lobed cartouches, each containing a portrait of a youth, interspersed with floral blossoms and foliate sprigs on a cream-white ground. The colour palette comprises cobalt blue, turquoise, manganese pink, and ochre with fine black outlines throughout. The reverse displays a clear glaze with visible kiln-firing marks and a small rectangular inventory sticker with handwritten characters.
