Lot 187: A MIDDLE EASTERN JAMBIYA DAGGER AND EMBROIDERED CEREMONIAL BELT, LATE 19TH CENTURY

A traditional Arabian jambiya dagger accompanied by a matching high-status ceremonial belt. The dagger features a sharply curved, double-edged steel blade with a prominent central medial ridge for structural reinforcement. The hilt is carved in a traditional T-shape from a dark material, likely horn or dense wood, and is embellished with two circular metallic bosses and a stamped bolster band featuring geometric patterns. The scabbard is constructed with a curved core encased in a brass or low-grade silver alloy, decorated with repoussé and chased floral scrolls and arabesque motifs. It is attached to the belt via green cord wraps. The wide ceremonial belt is crafted from textile heavily embroidered with gold-toned metallic zari thread in a repeating geometric diamond-lattice pattern, bordered by red and gold bands. The belt assembly includes a large heart-shaped metallic clasp and multiple circular decorative bosses with matching repoussé work. The reverse is finished with a cream-coloured canvas backing, hand-stitching, and a metal adjustment buckle.
