Lot 180: AN OMANI SWORD KATTARA WITH TOOLED LEATHER SCABBARD, 19TH CENTURY

he weapon features a straight, double-edged steel blade tapering to a rounded point. At the forte, the blade is worked with three distinct fullers; the central fuller extends approximately one-third of the length, while the two outer fullers are shorter. The hilt is of characteristic form, featuring a wide iron crossguard with a thick central block and down-turned, rounded terminals. The block is decorated with incised geometric zig-zag patterns. The cylindrical grip is wrapped in dark leather and is finished with a flat, disc-shaped iron pommel. The sword is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a wooden core covered in tooled leather. A cast brass or copper-alloy slider is fitted to the mid-section, featuring incised talismanic or tribal symbols within a four-quadrant grid. The scabbard retains two iron suspension rings and a thick, hand-cut leather shoulder strap.
