Lot 177: AN OTTOMAN MIQUELET LOCK RIFLE TUFEK LONG GUN, TURKEY, 19TH CENTURY

Features a tapering steel barrel secured to a full-length wooden stock by several brass bands. The breech section of the barrel is decorated with damascened scrollwork in silver or gold-toned metal. The miquelet lock mechanism is constructed from steel and includes an external mainspring, a cock with a ring-top screw, and a vertically grooved frizzen face. The wooden stock, possibly walnut, is profusely decorated with intricate brass wire inlays forming scrolling patterns, interspersed with small leaf-shaped brass plaques. The butt of the stock has a characteristic flat-sided, flaring triangular profile. The weapon is fitted with a brass button-style trigger and does not possess a trigger guard.
