Lot 145: TWO PERSIAN OR NORTH INDIAN TALISMANIC NEPHRITE JADE AMULETS, 18TH - 19TH CENTURY

Both pieces are fashioned from dark green nephrite jade, often termed spinach jade, and feature intaglio-carved Arabic calligraphy with remnants of original gilding in the incisions. The larger oval plaque is divided into three horizontal registers by parallel lines. The inscriptions contain standard Islamic invocations: the top register reads Ya Qadi al-Hajat (O Judge of needs), the middle register reads Ya Kafi al-Muhimmat (O Sufficer of all concerns), and the bottom register reads Ya Rafi al-Darajat (O Elevator of ranks). The smaller circular amulet or seal matrix features highly stylised calligraphy within a double-border, likely representing one of the 99 Names of Allah, such as Al-Baqi (The Everlasting) or Al-Shafi (The Healer), surrounded by decorative dots.
