This Arabic manuscript is a copy of Matali’ al-Masarrat bi-Jala’ Dala’il al-Khayrat, a celebrated commentary by the scholar Muhammad al-Mahdi al-Fasi (d. 1109) on Muhammad al-Jazuli’s prayer book, Dala’il al-Khayrat, written by the poet Muhammed Ibn Ibrahim Ibn Saleh Ibn Omar Pasha Al Dimashqi in 1162 AH. The volume is bound in heavily worn dark brown goatskin leather with a blind-stamped central medallion and a contrasting red leather spine. The text is written on handmade cream-coloured paper in a Maghribi script using black ink, with red ink employed for headings, keywords, and decorative borders. A simple hand-drawn ink illustration of a dome or archway appears at the head of the main text. The title page contains several ownership inscriptions and marginal notes, including a date in the upper left corner reading 1241 AH (corresponding to approximately 1825-1826 CE). The binding is constructed over boards with visible paper reinforcements in the inner gutters.
