Buyer's Premium:

This Safavid period miniature illuminated Quran is dated 1127 AH and was copied by the scribe Muhammed Ali. The colophon identifies this manuscript as the calligrapher’s twenty-second copy. The text is written in black Naskh script on paper, with each page contained within gold-ruled frames. Verse markers are indicated by small gold and red circular motifs. The opening double-page spread features dense illumination with central calligraphic panels containing the opening verses of Surah Al-Fatiha and Surah Al-Baqarah, surrounded by blue, gold, and red borders containing floral vine motifs. The manuscript is bound in lacquer-painted boards with a leather spine. The exterior covers are decorated in the Gul-o-Bulbul style, featuring roses, buds, and foliage in shades of orange, yellow, and green against a dark reddish-brown ground. The interior back cover displays a single golden rose on a black lacquer ground. The endpapers consist of marbled paper in a cloud pattern using blue, pink, and yellow pigments.
