Buyer's Premium:

This Ottoman tombak gilt copper candlestick dates to the late 18th or early 19th century. The item is crafted from copper that has been fire-gilt, a technique traditionally referred to as tombak. The structure consists of a deep, conical, tiered base supporting a multi-baluster stem. The stem features four distinct bulbous knops, each decorated with vertical ribbing and stamped arcaded borders. The entire exterior is profusely decorated with finely chased and engraved foliate and floral patterns, featuring small blossoms on scrolling stems against a matted ground. The base is composed of seven concentric tiers, each filled with chased floral sprigs. The candle cup at the top repeats these floral and ribbed motifs. The underside of the base is hollow, revealing the concentric ridges of the hammered form and a consistent gilded finish.
