Lot 35: AN OTTOMAN CALLIGRAPHIC LEVHA DEDICATED TO JALAL AD-DIN RUMI SIGNED MEHMET SEFIK AND DATED 1293 AH

This framed calligraphic panel, known as a levha, originates from the Late Ottoman period in Turkey. The work is executed in black ink on a light-toned paper ground using a bold, monumental Thuluth script. The central inscription consists of a devotional honorific address to the Sufi saint Jalal ad-Din Rumi, featuring the phrases Ya Mawlana (O our Master) and Ya Hadrat (O Presence). A complex calligraphic invocation is positioned at the top center of the panel. The lower left corner contains the Hijri date 1293, which corresponds to approximately 1876-1877 CE. The central field includes two small floral sprays in the upper corners and is enclosed by a dark brown decorative border featuring gold-toned islimi or foliate scrolling motifs. A calligraphic signature or seal is present in the lower center. The panel is professionally mounted with a neutral-toned mat and housed in a modern black frame under protective glazing.
