Lot 277: A CENTRAL ASIAN SILK AND COTTON IKAT QUILTED CHAPAN ROBE, 19TH - 20TH CENTURY

This garment is a full-length quilted robe, known as a chapan, originating from Central Asia. The outer shell is constructed from hand-loomed adras, a silk and cotton blend ikat fabric, featuring a traditional abr or cloud pattern. The color palette consists of magenta, deep purple, and brownish-red tones. The interior is fully lined with a printed cotton fabric displaying a repeating black and white geometric and floral medallion motif. The robe features a straight-cut silhouette with long set-in sleeves and an open front design without closures. Extensive vertical quilting is present throughout the body and sleeves. The cuffs are finished with wide, decorative woven bands featuring dense multi-colored geometric patterns on a dark red ground. The front opening and hem are bordered with a narrow yellow-green fabric binding.
