Lot 263: A LARGE ANTIQUE PERSIAN QAJAR ENGRAVED TINNED COPPER TRAY, 18TH - 19TH CENTURY
0 views
This large circular Persian tray, also known as a sini, is constructed from tinned copper. The vessel features a raised, scalloped rim with vertical fluting. The interior surface is decorated with dense, hand-engraved concentric bands. These decorative programs include repeating foliate borders, delicate arabesque scrolls, and intricate floral motifs. A central medallion contains a circular cartouche with a complex calligraphic inscription in an Islamic script. The reddish copper base metal is visible where the silvery-white tin coating has worn away through use. The tray is attributed to the Qajar period based on the decorative style and calligraphic composition.
