Lot 245: A CHINESE EXPORT LARGE FAMILLE ROSE MANDARIN PALETTE PUNCH BOWL, QIANLONG PERIOD, CIRCA 1775

This Chinese export porcelain Famille Rose punch bowl dates to the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty, circa 1770-1785. The exterior is decorated in overglaze enamels and gilding in the Mandarin palette style. The decoration features two large reserve panels depicting European-style landscapes and harbor scenes with architecture, windmills, and figures, executed in iron-red and sepia monochrome. These primary panels are interspersed with smaller cartouches containing butterflies and floral sprays, all set against a dense ground of pink cell-diapering, scrolling foliage, and gilded diaper patterns. The interior well features a central circular medallion with a similar iron-red landscape, and the interior rim is finished with a geometric and floral border. A gilded spearhead border encircles the foot.
