Lot 241: A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PRUNUS AND CRACKED ICE PORCELAIN JAR
0 views
A Chinese blue and white porcelain jar of ovoid form, decorated in the prunus on cracked ice pattern. This piece is rendered in the style of the Kangxi period and likely dates to the late 19th or early 20th century. The exterior features blossoming plum branches reserved against a vibrant cobalt blue ground with a cracked ice motif, symbolizing the arrival of spring. A stylized sawtooth border encircles the shoulder. The interior and base are finished with a clear glaze, while the wide foot rim remains unglazed. The recessed base bears no painted or incised reign marks but retains a yellow adhesive provenance label from Christie’s South Kensington, London, bearing the reference YKS 7851 and addresses at 85 Old Brompton Road, London, and 192 Huntingdon Road, York. A small rectangular sticker with the numeral 61 is affixed to the interior wall.
