The piece is constructed from bronze with extensive incised decoration throughout the exterior. The form includes a slender tapering neck topped with a small hinged lid, an arched handle with a thumb rest, and a flared pedestal foot. The decorative program consists of horizontal bands of Arabic calligraphic script around the shoulder and neck, interspersed with foliate and geometric motifs. The central body is further adorned with circular medallions depicting human-headed winged figures, or harpies, set within intricate borders. The spout is modeled in the form of an ancient oil lamp.
