Lot 227: AN INDIAN WHITE METAL REPOUSSE HANDLED CLUTCH PURSE WITH LANDSCAPE MOTIFS

This item is an Indian white metal clutch purse, also identified as an ethnic bridal bag or decorative box. The piece is constructed from white metal with a silvered finish over a base metal. The box features an elongated octagonal form with a hinged lid and a large, fixed overhead handle. The exterior surfaces are decorated using repousse and chasing techniques. The lid displays a dense pattern of floral and foliate scrollwork, while the sides depict a continuous landscape scene including palm trees, architectural structures resembling stupas, and a stylized fence. The handle is cast with incised leaf motifs and is attached to the lid via two decorative finials. A heart-shaped hasp secures the front, featuring a small attached chain that terminates in a leaf-shaped pendant.
