Lot 166: A KASHAN TURQUOISE GLAZED POTTERY BOWL, PERSIA, CIRCA 1200

This footed bowl is constructed from fritware and features a deep, rounded body supported by a short, unglazed tapering foot. The exterior is decorated with a wide horizontal band of black underglaze painting containing a series of repeating characters in stylized pseudo-Kufic script. The calligraphy consists of rhythmic vertical strokes with rounded, interconnected bases, functioning as a decorative motif rather than a legible text. The interior contains concentric circular bands in a dark pigment surrounding a central medallion. The entire vessel is covered in a transparent turquoise-tinted glaze.
