Description

This Persian tinned copper vessel, identified as a badiya, features a hand hammered bulbous body and a wide flared rim. The exterior neck is decorated with a broad horizontal band of chased and engraved ornamentation depicting hares and birds set within a field of scrolling floral and foliate motifs. This central band includes panels of calligraphic script in the Nastaliq style and is bordered by secondary bands of repeating stylized heart shaped motifs. The construction shows evidence of traditional metalworking techniques.
