Lot 33: AN ILLUMINATED QURAN FOLIO IN EASTERN KUFIC SCRIPT, 11TH- 12TH CENTURY
0 views
A single illuminated manuscript leaf from a Quran, written on paper. The folio features calligraphy in Eastern Kufic script, also referred to as New Style script, rendered in dark brown ink. The text contains verses from Surah Ash-Shura (Chapter 42, approximately verses 21 to 25). The script is embellished with multi-coloured vocalisation marks, including red, yellow, and green dots. On the recto, there is a circular gilded marginal medallion, or shams, decorated with a geometric star motif in gold and coloured pigments. The vellum exhibits a natural aged tone throughout. The piece is housed in a modern double-sided gilt-wood frame with a white window mount, allowing for the inspection of both the recto and verso.
