Lot 324: A COLLECTION OF IRAQI BANKNOTES, KING FAISAL II SERIES, LAW OF 1947

This collection consists of several circulated banknotes issued by the National Bank of Iraq under the Law of 1947. The group includes one-dinar, five-dinar, and ten-dinar denominations. Each banknote features a portrait of a young King Faisal II on the obverse. The notes were produced in the UK, bearing the printed printer’s mark at the bottom centre of the reverse: BRADBURY, WILKINSON & CO LTD NEW MALDEN, SURREY, ENGLAND. The one-dinar notes are printed in blue and light yellow, featuring serial numbers 849088 and 235590. Their reverse depicts a man in traditional robes riding a horse. The five-dinar note is printed in red and pink with serial number G 922572. Its reverse illustrates King Hammurabi receiving laws from the sun god Shamash. The ten-dinar note features a multi-coloured background with purple borders and serial number B 849361. The reverse depicts an ancient Mesopotamian winged bull known as a Lamassu. One one-dinar note carries pencil handwriting on the left reverse margin, and the ten-dinar note features a blue ink inscription reading 21/5 on its reverse.
