Lot 321: A LARGE OTTOMAN TURKISH GILT BRASS DIVIT PEN CASE AND INKWELL, 19TH CENTURY

A portable scribe’s writing set, of the type known as a divit or qalamdan, featuring an elongated octagonal pen tube and a conjoined rectangular inkwell. The set is constructed from brass with a gilded surface finish. The pen tube is faceted with eight sides and terminates in a domed end cap fitted with a small suspension loop. The rectangular inkwell is attached perpendicularly to one end of the tube and is fitted with a hinged lid. The top of the lid is decorated with a raised relief motif depicting a scallop shell with radial ridges.
