Lot 287: A SILVER MOUNTED MARTINI-HENRY OMANI TRIBAL FALLING-BLOCK ACTION RIFLE, 19TH CENTURY

This single-shot breech-loading rifle is an Omani tribal variant of the Martini-Henry pattern, featuring a robust falling-block action chambered in .577/450 calibre. The rifle is configured as a carbine and exhibits extensive traditional embellishment, most notably the intricate silver wire wrapping around the wrist and the chased white-metal bands securing the barrel to the forend. The barrel is fitted with a fixed blade front sight and a flip-up ladder-style rear sight graduated for long-range fire. The two-piece wooden furniture shows signs of significant age and historical use, with a dark weathered patina, scattered dents, and surface abrasions throughout. The receiver is engraved on the left side with a panel of Arabic script, likely indicating regional provenance or personal ownership. The metal components, including the barrel and trigger guard, have aged to a dark mottled grey patina with areas of surface oxidation and localised pitting consistent with its service life. A single sling swivel remains attached to the underside of the buttstock. function does not work on this firearm.
